Concurrent Engineering
Concurrent engineering is a product design and development methodology based on the parallelisation of tasks (i.e. performing tasks concurrently).
This means that design engineering, compliance engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality management and other functions are integrated to reduce the time required to bring a new product to the market, and is core to the approach taken by Warley Design.
Sometimes called Simultaneous Engineering or Integrated Product Development (IPD), concurrent engineering requires the combination of multiple disciplines to work together from the start of a project. The intention of this is to reduce the need for expensive engineering changes and redesigns later in the product development lifecycle, particularly those resulting from post-design input from non-design disciplines such as manufacturing.
By taking a concurrent approach to product development, fewer design iterations are needed, and they occur before the design becomes final. This significantly reduces the time to market (TTM) and project costs.
